Our journey initially began 18 years ago, when it opened as an art gallery that focused on showcasing the many talents of the Queen City. Over the years, ownership changed hands and SPECIALTY COFFEE GRADUALLY entered the fray, marrying both our love for creativity and desire to share the art of A BEAUTIFULLY CRAFTED BEVERAGE in one experience.

Even though Redtree is primarily known today as a coffee shop, we have never lost sight of how crucial [the role of] art is in building the community we know and love and continuing to nurture these relationships by sharing beauty, knowledge, and opportunities for connection with those around us. Our spaces continue to showcase and support the efforts of Cincinnati-based artists, and in addition, offer special exhibitions and community events/experiences which exist for this purpose. 

At its core, Redtree has–and always will be–a space for community. A space for creators, doers and thinkers, for coffee lovers, and for those who simply need a new space to become their haven of joy, comfort and connection.

And so this space is now yours, too, friend. 

We like to envision our ethos as a tree–in accord with our namesake–on which our three branches of commitment grow.

One belongs to our craft – another to our guests – and the third, to our staff.

We believe in the simple power of a great cup of coffee that is crafted with care and served with intention. We believe that everyone who walks through our doors is valued and this shows in the way we serve and provide for our guests. Our hope is that everyone who comes in contact with us will inherit this same belief and, in turn, look upon others–and themselves–with the same appreciation. Each one of us has a story to share whether it be told through art, coffee or conversation.

THE IDEA OF OwnING your craft has REMAINED a core value of ours from the Beginning.

Our baristas are artisans, and as such, take the quality and preparation involved with crafting each beverage seriously. From the smallest details like beautifully steamed milk, to selecting the appropriate garnish or sourcing beans which lend our cold brew a vibrant palette–we are intentional about all of it.

We have invested many years, passion and resources into developing a coffee program that is sure to offer a delightful and enlightening experience for every guest, connoisseur or not. But what truly sets our team apart is that we see ourselves as students as well as artisans–always learning and growing in our craft and always searching for opportunities to alter your knowledge, perception, and appreciation of coffee is, and can be.

Redtree’s future centers on continuing as a pioneer–and Cincinnati’s first–in providing a gratuity-free coffee experience.

We prioritize serving not only our guests, artists, and local community members, but the wonderful team of individuals behind Redtree, as well.

We want them to not only survive, but to thrive–and this requires livable wages. Simply put, adopting a gratuity-free service model means that we can now provide our team with livable and consistent pay and tipping is neither necessary nor expectant of customers.

You will notice that our Square POS systems no longer offer the option to tip your barista, and any cash tips that are left will be placed into a jar for donation to local charities of our baristas’ choice at the end of each month. We hope these efforts will reinforce the culture of authenticity and genuine care that we strive to create in every aspect of our business. Our commitment to gratuity-free service ensures that Redtree will continue to be a company individuals can see themselves anchored at for years to come.

In light of becoming a more self-sustaining company, we are hoping to experiment with and pursue coffee roasting and direct-sourcing our beans. Another exciting opportunity that lies ahead is to bring in an in-house baker… more news to come on that front!
